Wooden Mosques From Yesterday To Today
2013
Every living creature indispensably exists in this world. But expressing his existence to future generations is only specific to mankind. We work, we produce and we leave our works to the future. Such is woodwork, the work of Anatolian people from yesterday to tomorrow. Wood is a cradle to their children, a coffin to their dead and a sanctuary to their prayers. WOODEN MOSQUES FROM YESTERDAY TO TODAY is the story of an adventure. It comprises wooden mosques which were built with a traditional building technique called “Çantı”, similar to the dovetail technique, starting during the period of the Turkish principalities, continuing with the Seljuk Turks and having vanished today. The program also shows mosques with wooden pillars whose number has dropped down to 11 within time. The efforts to protect these invaluable cultural Works from the impact of time, nature and technology never wear off.
