Barbarossa: Sword Of The Mediterranean
2021
Although Lesbos was at first a big prison in the eyes of Yakup Agha, who was one of the timariot cavalrymen who had left the Vardar region and participated in the conquest of Lesbos, it has become a Garden of Eden for him after his marriage to Katerina. There, he becomes the father of four sons. He names them Ishak, Oruç, Khizr and Ilyas. His wish is that they all master a craft, know where they come from, and learn their customs by heart. However, in terms of mastering a craft, Oruç wanted to sail away to the seas against his father’s wishes. Although they continued their arguments for a long time, Yakup Agha’s life was not long enough to see that his stubbornness in his wish proved to be a success. His father’s hatred of sea and seamanship, and in essence, about the slight propensity that sailing men have towards piracy, was virtually inherited by Ishak. Ishak gets into tough arguments with Oruç on this issue. Although Oruç repeatedly says that he will not be a pirate; according to Ishak, that is where one will eventually end up in if he sails to the sea. This is not the only conflict between the two brothers; Oruç (Engin Altan Düzyatan) fell in love as every young person does and was infatuated with the daughter of Yorgo, another rich merchant of Lesbos. Yorgo, out of his past love for Katerina and anger at her rejection, turns down this offer.
