Although Lesbos was at first a big prison in the eyes of Yakup Agha, who was one of the timariot cavalrymen who had left the Vardar region and participated in the conquest of Lesbos, it has become a Garden of Eden for him after his marriage to Katerina. There, he becomes the father of four sons. He names them Ishak, Oruç, Khizr and Ilyas. His wish is that they all master a craft, know where they come from, and learn their customs by heart. Yorgo, out of his past love for Katerina and anger at her rejection, turns down this offer.
